Hello SEED Community,
SEED has been open for business for about two weeks now, and we've been thrilled with your response. We've bought - and started publishing – dozens of your articles. Here are a few that are already intriguing readers on some of AOL's top sites:
On Gadling: Eight Money Saving Tips for Your Next Road Trip
On Holidash: Macy's 2009 Holiday Window Display
On StyleList: Plane Pretty: How To Look Great While Flying
You've embraced our initial vision for SEED, writing great articles and submitting visually compelling photos. So much so, in fact, that we are still reviewing them all. Thanks for your patience as we deal with this wonderful dilemma. Once we finish reviewing this initial batch, we look forward to communicating with you more quickly with relevant information and feedback.
We want to address two main questions we're hearing from you:
Submission Status: Based on the volume of incoming articles, our editors are finding that they are hitting a comfortable stride in reviewing submitted content within 5-7 days after the listed due date. So, if you submit content earlier in the process, please know you may not hear from us until about a week after the deadline. This gives us the time we need to thoughtfully review your content and work to identify a good match for one of our sites.
Shared Earnings: We've heard your input about the aspect of SEED that is meant to offer writers a share of our earnings from advertising, rather than a fixed up-front fee. We think this is an exciting idea with the potential to let you earn money and engage readers in experimental or new content areas. So far we've not used this option; all the articles we've bought have been for the stated fee. When we do start offering to publish content with shared earnings, we will do so in a way that's clear, also giving you the choice to decide whether this arrangement is right for you and your work.
We are committed to making SEED the best online venue for experienced creators like you to develop your craft, reach the widest audience, and earn money for your efforts. No company will give you more opportunities to cover a wider range of topics in more ways than AOL. What you see on the site today is just the beginning of the exciting opportunities we'll roll out in coming months. So, check the site often.
We have big dreams for SEED, and they can only be achieved with you as our partners. You're joining our team, so please stay in touch. Write us with your feedback, ideas and dreams at contact@seed.com.
Our very best to you and yours this holiday season. We look forward to growing together in the New Year.
Cheers,

(page 1 of 1)I have a question... If I submit something under the open template and I get an offer of lets say $23.00 and I list my price at $23.00 will that always get approved and will I get paid $23.00 most of the time for that or does a person have to review it after a computer reviews it?
Laurence-
There is no computer editing stories. AOL editors are reviewing each submission. For now, if we agree to buy it it will be at the price you asked for unless we contact you to discuss another price.
This is one of the many areas we hope to streamline in coming months.

I just wanted to say hello and best wishes for your new enterprise. I have faith you will work out any "growing pains" and here's to a successful year for us all. :)
I took on two assignments and submitted them a few days ago. The
titles appeared on my dashboard and disappeared three days later.
Are they rejected? Are they lost in electronic limbo?
Gerald Watt
This happened to me too and I was wondering the same thing. I would like to submit more articles, but I haven't heard from Seed.com and their FAQ page doesn't mention that rejected articles will disappear from your Dashboard.
Can someone tell me how this works?
Thanks!
Hi Gerald and J.T. -- I"m sorry you both experienced such frustration with this. As you both probably know by now, a feature has been added that no longer automatically removes your rejected content from your Completed Work folder. Instead, you can now remove it via the red Delete button located on your submission detail screen.
If you have more questions or issues, please email us directly at contact@seed.com.
Thanks!
Kristi
I too am wondering about submitting more articles before the ones I have written are reviewed. I have not heard any feedback and was wondering about current review times.
I am a bit leery. I also noted this board has not been updated since before Christmas. I just think some answers would be nice so we know if we are doing what it takes to succeed here at SEED.
Thank you,
Julie
I really like what AOL is doing here. I've seen a lot of sites like this, mostly serving How To content to websites, but this is by far the brand that interests me the most. A big concern for me, though, is how multiple contributors may claim and submit articles for one topic. Some of these projects are time consuming, research heavy, etc. The possibility that I could put all of my effort into these projects and not have anything to show for it because of this seems a bit unfair to us writers. Maybe SEED can think about shortening the due date and speeding up the review time so that articles are accepted or rejected more swiftly. Then, if unsatisfied, the title can go back into the open queue.
Hi Delia,
You're right on the money here. We're definitely working to shorten our due dates and review times. We're also working on some enhancements that will allow more direct dialogue between editors and writers, and more one-on-one assignments and the ability for users to pitch ideas to our editors.
Thanks for your patience as we work through this beta phase. Lots of enhancements and features to add, just as soon as we can add them.
If you have any more questions or issues, please email us directly at contact@seed.com for a prompt response.
Thanks!
Kristi
I would like to write for your site, but I'd like to write on my own subjects. Can I do this or does it have to coinside with your listed topics?
Hi Daneen,
Thanks for writing.
We're currently not accepting open submissions right now, as we re-work the process to allow for more of a pitch-and-assign model that will include more direct interaction with our editors.
We will let you know when this feature is available in coming months. Until then, you can read about our plans here: http://academy.seed.com/2010/01/08/new-year-new-changes/.
We also invite you to bookmark Seed.com and our blog at http://blog.seed.com, and keep watching for our latest news and developments for when this and other options become available.
Thanks!
Kristi
As a new contributor, I must say that the opportunity falls very short of my expectations. I assume that Views refers to the number of editors who have, at the very minimum, loaded an article into their browsers.
There are no Views for any of my submissions. Imagine my surprise when I received a form rejection notice that stated:
"We're writing to tell you that we liked your content submission, but that it was not an exact fit for publication on one of our AOL network's sites.
But we strongly encourage you to try again we loved what we saw, and hope that we find an opportunity to work together ..."
In the future, your editors might want to actually browse (dare I say "read"?) a submission before they send the stock message. If they don't like an article, can't use it or whatever, that's fine. Most of us have received a rejection slip at some time.
Your editors demand honesty and original work from every writer, should we expect less from them?

Can you submit photos only - no articles? Will you be notified when your photo has been accepted and not pending?
Why is it when I log into my dashboard it keeps telling me that no one has looked at anything I have written. Yet I keep receiving a rejection e-mail with the same message verbatim. How can you reject something no one has looked at yet. I am choosing subjects you picked for us the users of Seed.com. I am picking subjects I know something about. If you truly want submissions from people out here help us to feel like you are taking us seriously. Please could you include some constructive directions as to what you are looking for in the rejection e-mails? The descriptions for the assignment are usually less words than the assignment.
Thanks
Karen
Hi Kristi,
I have submitted an article almost 10 days back and am still waiting for the approval. Its says "pending approval" for which the due date has past 7 days...
Please let me know when will I get any intimation from your guys??
Thanks,
Pradeep Manivannan
The article Plane Pretty: How to Look Great While Flying really helped me remember how refreshing a trip can be on the mind, body, and soul. There's peace at the highest point of leaving and serenity upon return, and it's just that simple. Now the fact that I might look traveled is a concern but in minor and not major notes because I usually place more emphasis on being clean and comfortable, but I must be wearing my favorite Eva lipstick and some Hip eyeshadow along with some comfortable shoes in order to feel complete and pulled together. Forget the small space and dry atmoshphere that may be accompanying me! I'd rather focus on the fact that I'm going someplace, to spend some time, but I have experienced the power of the Clinique facial mist, and I must admit hydrating the skin is an instant revitalizer, so do not sleep on that tip ladies and gentle men, and men please do not trip, you are not to hard to primp and mist. Looking good does not make you soft, but not being excited about yourself and life produces that wimp. Remember, it's all about you when you grace the friendly sky.
I just signed up yesterday and I want to know since all content requests are open to everyone how many articls will be bought per topic, will it only be one article per contt call or will Seed.com buy more than on article?
It just doesn't seem fair to choose only one submission out of all submissions recived.
I'm sorry for the typos before but sometimes my keys get stuck, what I meant was will Seed buy more than one article for any given topic cause I spent a lot of time and effort on one I wrote and I would not want to paticipate on a site where my all my efforts are disregarded and wasted because you only chose to buy one article per topic.
I have had a couple of rejections with the stock wording and phrasing that others have mentioned. It would be nice to receive some specifics about what was wrong with a particular article. Writer guidelines would also be helpful.
I'm not sure if Kristi is still responding to these comments, but I had a question about my submission. I have an article sitting for 16 days, and when I read through last weeks published articles I found an article of the same title already chosen (albeit it was not well received by users as made evident by comments). I emailed and received a response stating the editors are backed up, but 16 days? How long is it going to sit there? I will sell it elsewhere but want to know it is definitely rejected before doing so.
